Margaret M. Plasterer (Sep 9, 1916-2012)

Margaret Plasterer, age 96 of Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the St. Gabriel’s Community in Bismarck.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 21st at the Washburn United Methodist Church with Pastor Peder Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be held from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn.

Margaret was born September 9, 1916 in Arthur, ND to Gordon & Olga (Schur) Burgum. She moved with her parents to Washburn in 1918 and graduated from Washburn High School in 1935. Following high school, Margaret worked for the local phone company for several years. In 1945, she went to work as an Abstractor for Security Abstract in the McLean County Courthouse. Margaret worked as a Licensed Abstractor until retiring in 1962. On March 6, 1962, she married Chester “Chet” Plasterer in Minot. They made their home in Washburn and enjoyed traveling together, especially to various locations in the western United States.

Chester died in July 1996. Margaret continued to make her home in Washburn until October 2009 when she moved to the Edgewood Vista in Bismarck. In April 2012, she moved to the St. Gabriel’s Community of Bismarck. Margaret was currently the oldest member of the Washburn United Methodist Church. Within the church, she served as an organist, playing for many weddings and funerals, and singing with various church groups. She enjoyed flower pot gardening at her home in Washburn and spending time with her family. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Margaret is remembered as a dear little lady that never complained, even when her health began to fail. Her family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Edgewood Vista and the St. Gabriel’s Community for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care. Margaret always thought of you all as her dear friends.

She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Edie & Ray Sheldon of Washburn; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Burgum of Cooperstown; three nephews, Brad (Cathy) Sheldon, Tom (Kim) Sheldon, both of Washburn, & K.C. (Debby) Burgum of Bismarck; seven nieces, Jan (Jim) Stoppler of Washburn, Kris (Rick) Link of Bismarck, Karyn Sheldon of Bismarck, Barb (Dave) Lee of Bismarck, Susan (Terry) Fugere of Bismarck, Debra (Alton) Dahl of Hannaford, & Kathy (Larry) Larson of Fargo; 18 great nieces & nephews, and 12 great-great nieces & nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Chester), infant daughter (Catherine), one sister (Marian Stevens), two brothers (John & James Burgum), brother-in-law (Kenyon Stevens), two nephews (Ronald Stevens & Roland Burgum), & two great nephews (Marc Stevens Bender & Cote Fugere).

Memorials are preferred to the Washburn United Methodist Church or the Washburn Area Ambulance Service.
