William Arthur Burgum 1940
William Arthur Burgum was born at Gateshead in 1914 to John Thomas and Gertrude (Young) Burgum. This picture shows him in 1940. He married Kathleen Isabella Holloway in 1942. He died in 1988.
William & Kathleen Burgum 1947
William Arthur Burgum married
Kathleen Isabella Holloway on 4th February 1942. They had both settled on the same estate in Billingham before the War, living just a few hundred yards apart. William spent most of his life working for ICI, while Kathleen spent most of her life bringing up their children, Sandra and Arthur. This picture, which includes Sandra, was taken in 1947.
Henry Burgum (1838-1879)
This is the church at Old Buckenham, in Norfolk, close to the last school where
Henry Burgum taught. He was the first born of James and Mary Ann (Cocking) Burgum. Three other children William, Mary Ann and James were born in 1840, 1842, and 1845.
Henry married Sarah Jane Rickard in Rotherham in 1857. They had 7 children between 1859 & 1875. The 1851 cenus shows Henry teaching at the National School in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, while the 1871 census indicates he was a school master at Walton, at Weatherby, Yorkshire. Henry died of lung disease and was buried at this church in 1879.
John Thomas and Gertrude Burgum
This is a picture of
John Thomas Burgum (1881-1941) and
Gertrude (Young) Burgum (1886-1972). They were both born in Gateshead, Co Durham, and they married there in 1905. John worked as a Sulpher Tester at a Chemical Works in 1901 and was listed as a Chemical labourer in 1911, when they were both living at 55 Southey Street, in Gateshead. They had 11 children.
John died 10th November 1941, while living at 41 Station Crescent, Billingham, Co Durham. His effects, left to his wife Gertrude, were valued at £595 8s. 6d. Gertrude lived another 30 years, dying in June 1972, aged 86.
